Instruction
Becoming a swimmer is more than just learning to swim.
It's learning to enjoy swimming as a fitness activity. Our goal is not
just to get you across the pool - it's to start you on a lifelong path
to overall fitness through one of the best, low impact, aerobic activities
available.
As a non-swimmer or novice, our step-by-step private lessons will teach you how to swim
each stroke, how to swim safely, how to make continuous improvement, and much
more. DAM's coaches will personally assess your individual needs and goals and
create a personalized package for you to teach you how to swim safely and more
efficiently.
Every person learns a new skill at a somewhat different rate, but on average,
it will usually take between 3-6 sessions for a non-swimmer to become comfortable
and relaxed in the water so as to be able to swim the entire length of a 25 yard
pool. In addition to private lessons, DAM offers two other ways to improve your swimming: Swim Basics for Beginners and Intermediate swimmers and Flume Training for Intermediate or Advanced swimmers and triathletes.
DAM has a program for every level
of swimmer:
Beginner I: for
those who are afraid of the water
or have limited
breathing skills.
Beginner II: for those
who can swim one length of the pool (25 yards) freestyle
with out stopping. Can breath with their face in
the water swimming freestyle, but need help with
breathing and stroke technique.
Intermediate: The
Intermediate class builds on the confidence
you learned in the previous classes.
Boost your freestyle, learn other strokes,
explore new training techniques and build
endurance! Learn to swim 100 yard freestyle
repeats without stopping. Handle short-rest
swim sets. Learn advanced freestyle stroke
techniques to prepare to participate
in masters swimming, open water, and
triathlon events.
Not sure what class you
should be in? Take the Swimming
Quiz to find out.
Flume Training
Dallas Aquatic Masters offers a swimming program designed to improve the two most important areas of a swimmer’s performance: stroke mechanics and high-performance conditioning. This program is conducted in a “swimming flume.”
The flume is a swimming tank that holds one swimmer and is designed to propel a variable speed current of water. The swimmer, in effect, swims against the current. Read more about Flume Training.
